A chemical reaction transforms reactants into new substances with completely different properties. Here are five experiments that prove it! Experiment A: Baking soda and vinegar were combined in a flask with a balloon on top. Carbon dioxide gas inflated the balloon — proof of gas production! Experiment B: Vitamin C powder was stirred into Betadine water. The brown solution turned completely clear — a color change showing a reaction occurred. Experiment C: Vinegar was added to fresh milk. The acid reacted with milk proteins, forming visible solid clumps — a brand new substance had formed. Experiment D: Baking soda was added to vinegar while a thermometer measured the temperature. The mixture fizzed and the temperature dropped — a clear temperature change! Experiment E: A lit match was dropped onto ethanol-soaked tissue in a beaker. Combustion produced visible flames — heat and light, the final signs of a chemical reaction!
