CyberDrill: AI-Assisted Cybersecurity Training

Modern organizations depend on their IT and security teams to continuously identify, analyze, and remediate cybersecurity vulnerabilities before they cause serious harm. However, these professionals face a heavy operational workload every day — managing incidents, support tickets, system updates, and deadlines — leaving very limited time for hands-on training. Conventional vulnerability scanners do provide useful reports, and employees follow established remediation procedures — but the process often ends at simply applying the fix. An employee may successfully fix a vulnerability without fully understanding its root cause, why the remediation works, or how to independently verify that the issue has actually been resolved. Conventional training exercises can demonstrate vulnerabilities in a lab environment, but they often lack individualized assessment, automated validation, and continuous structured feedback all in one place. This reveals a critical gap: there is a difference between knowing that a vulnerability exists and demonstrating the practical ability to understand, remediate, and verify it independently. This gap motivated our team to propose CyberDrill — an AI-assisted cybersecurity training and skills-assessment platform that guides trainees through understanding, remediating, and verifying vulnerabilities inside a safe, controlled environment.
