DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is made of two strands twisted into a double helix. The outer sides consist of sugar and phosphate groups, while nitrogenous bases face inward. Adenine pairs with thymine through two hydrogen bonds, while guanine pairs with cytosine through three. These complementary base pairs form the rungs of the DNA ladder, connecting the two strands. The strands run in opposite directions, forming an antiparallel arrangement. Together, these components create the distinctive DNA double-helix structure that carries genetic information.
