In 1957, the Soviet Union had a bold and dangerous mission — to send a living creature into space. They chose Laika — a small stray dog found wandering the streets of Moscow. Scientists trained her, fitted her with sensors, and placed her inside Sputnik 2. On November 3rd, 1957, Laika launched into orbit — the first living being in space. Sadly, there was no plan to bring her home. Laika gave her life for human discovery. Today, Laika is a hero — a brave little dog who opened the door to human spaceflight forever.
