It started like any other rushed morning — a teenager jolted awake, already an hour and a half behind schedule, heart pounding before his feet even hit the floor. He flew down the stairs, desperate to find the car keys, his mind racing almost as fast as his feet on every step. With keys in hand, he jumped into the family car and backed nervously out of the garage, a bright student-driver sticker plastered on the bumper for all to see. He pressed harder on the accelerator, telling himself he could make it to school on time, ignoring every warning his inexperience was quietly screaming at him. Then, at an intersection he barely registered, everything changed in a single, terrible, irreversible second — metal meeting metal with a sickening crash. When the dust settled, the teenager sat dazed behind a deployed airbag, while the woman in the other car lay motionless, slumped over her steering wheel, her baby still sleeping in the back seat. Later, in a quiet hospital room, the woman's daughter stood in the doorway, hand over her mouth, tears streaming down her face, staring at her mother lying in that bed — a consequence no one can ever undo.
