Preach the Word: The Power Was Never Yours

Imagine you are about to speak, and a quiet fear creeps in — what if I am just not good enough? Here is the surprise that changes everything: that heavy weight was never yours to carry in the first place. The power of preaching was never in the speaker — it has always been in the message itself, the living Word of God. Your job is not to impress anyone. Your one job is simply to make the meaning of that Word clear and plain. This Word is not ordinary at all. God spoke, and the entire world came into being. That same voice still speaks today — described as living and active, sharp as a sword, like fire, like a hammer that breaks solid rock wide open. There is something even deeper here. The Bible tells us that Jesus himself is the Word made flesh. So when you faithfully say what Scripture actually says, God is still speaking — your voice carrying His message to real people. So how do you actually preach this way? You let the meaning of the passage become the message of your sermon — nothing more and nothing less. You open the text, you show what is genuinely there, and you trust that is enough. Here is a line worth remembering forever: only the Holy Spirit can change a human heart, and He works by and with the Word. Your talent cannot do it. You bring the Word faithfully, and the Spirit does the work you never could do on your own. So here is the beautiful truth that holds it all together. God can absolutely work without you — and that lifts every burden right off your shoulders. But He chooses to work through you — and that is the most extraordinary gift. Be faithful with the Word, lean hard on His grace, let your life back up everything you say, and then simply watch what only the Spirit can do.
