They say King Solomon was the wisest person who ever lived. God spoke to him face to face. He had more gold, more honour, and more peace than any king before or after him. But here is the great mystery of his life — how does someone who has everything… end up losing the one thing that actually matters? When he was just starting out, God came to him and said, 'Ask what I shall give you.' Solomon didn't ask for long life, or victory over his enemies, or even great riches. He said, 'Give your servant therefore an understanding heart, that I may judge your people and discern between good and evil.' That humility moved God deeply. Because he asked for the right thing, God gave him everything else too — wealth, fame, respect, and rest from all his enemies around him. Now here is the surprising truth that changes everything you might think about failure. Solomon didn't fall because he was poor. He didn't fall because he was suffering or going through a terrible trial. Solomon fell because he was too blessed. He had so much comfort, so many pleasures, so many beautiful things — that slowly, almost invisibly, he forgot where it all came from. His blessings became the very thing that pulled his heart away from the Giver of every good gift. He built a glorious temple for God to dwell in — yet allowed his own heart to become a place where God was no longer truly at home. His story is one of the most honest warnings in all of Scripture. It tells us that it is easy to be faithful when we have nothing. The real test comes when God has given you everything you ever dreamed of. May we learn from Solomon what he learned too late — that no amount of wisdom, success, or blessing is worth trading your closeness with God. Keep your heart soft toward Him — in the good times and the abundant times — because that is when you need Him most of all.
