The Boy Who Didn't Run

Full transcript

On Calle 7, rows of homes stand labeled Hogar 12, Hogar 13, and Hogar 14, cobblestones lining the quiet street beneath trees, as dark storm clouds gather ominously overhead. Suddenly, a low-flying single-engine propeller plane roars over the rooftops from the upper right, its engine screaming RROOAAARR, shattering the peaceful neighborhood with sudden, violent noise. Amid the chaos, a young man stands calmly in the street, a cross-body satchel slung over his shoulder, gazing upward with quiet curiosity rather than fear. All around him, families burst from their doorways, children running with fearful eyes, pulled hastily by their parents' hands, desperate to escape the roaring sky above. An elderly woman clutches her head in the corner, men rush out from Hogar 13 and Hogar 14, a mother shields her children, and a lone figure watches from far down Calle 7. The plane cuts a dramatic diagonal across the stormy sky, motion lines trailing behind it and the fleeing crowd, framing a stark contrast between chaos and the boy's unshaken calm. Perhaps this is a flashback to wartime terror, the roar of bombers over home, and the boy's stillness a quiet resilience, remembering fear from the safety of distance.
